YES! We will be adding designs constantly.
We love getting suggestions for new Edges. If it is specific to a book (copywrite) we will have to look into licensing.
Unfortunately at this time we do not.
Unfortunately at this time we do not offer custom colors.
Not with a single press. When it comes to dark colors a single press may not achieve the saturation you desire, but it will create a lovely vintage effect!
To achieve deeper saturation, you'll need to perform a double press. Please see instructional video here.
We recommend this approach only for very dark colors. We do not recommend this approach for beginners.
Bookery Edges – Process
We DO NOT suggest using a home iron for this process! Please see our list of items that we recommend.
1. Home irons do NOT evenly heat - which will lead to your final design not having even color
2. Home irons DO have water in them. You DO NOT want to get the design wet at all or the ink will bleed and you will lose your design
We will always suggest the Cricut Heat Press first as it gave more vibrant color and more even color overall. But yes, you can use any generic heat press (we have some linked in our recommended products). If you decide to use a generic mini heat press that you already own - watch the temp on your tool. We tested several different heat presses and we found that the Cricut Heat Press has been the most reliable.
The bookery edge sheet you unpack will NOT be the color of the final result. See this image the differences between the bookery edge sheet and the final result.
Yes, BUT you will lose the rough cut look of the edges as well as a few mm of page size. For this type of sanding we use an orbital sander. If wanting to use an orbital sander: that is at your descression and ability level with power tools. We can not guarantee final product. Once sanded to be even you would still need to follow all instructions in the guide.
Technically yes, BUT - we do not recommend it unless you are experienced in Bookery Edges. Doing more than one at a time is complicated to get and keep even in a book press. We are working on videos that can help you work through this process - watch for that soon!
Technically yes, but at this time we are suggesting use for paperbacks only. We will have hardback instructions and information coming soon!
Yes. The original color will effect the final outcome. There is no way to guarentee the final color.
Yes. The color bleeds down into the pages so you will need to sand the old image off completely. We find that an orbital sander works faster than hand sanding but it is not as precise. Once the image is totally gone you'll be able to start the process over.
Although you can use Bookery Edges on the top and bottom edges of your books, we advise against ironing near the spine. The high heat will cause the adhesive used in bookbinding to melt, potentially damaging the book.
Not if you follow our instructions! Once you are done ironing loosen the book press so it's still holding the books but without the extreme pressure. Be sure to let the book cool completely to avoid warping.
When selecting books to use with Bookery Edges, we suggest avoiding books with full printed ink images on the pages, such as black pages or heavily inked images that go all the way to the edge. The ink on the pages of these books can sometimes heat up during the process of adding edges, which may cause the pages to stick together.
At this time to ensure the best results and preserve the integrity of your books, we recommend choosing books without full inked images. This will help avoid any issues and allow the decorative edge designs to adhere beautifully without any risk of damage.
